Founder of A&C Mall, Dr. Andrew Asamoah believes Ghana’s development depends on expanding the way society defines success.
The entrepreneur says the country places too much emphasis on traditional academic careers while neglecting technical skills that can drive industrial growth.
According to him, many young people are pushed towards becoming doctors, lawyers and other professionals, while technical fields receive less attention.
“Instead of pushing people more into technical engineering, we are only thinking everybody wants to be a lawyer, everybody wants to be a doctor,” he said.
Dr. Asamoah believes this mindset limits opportunities for many young people whose talents may exist outside traditional classrooms.
“People are very good with their hands. People are good as singers. Sometimes we don’t discover our inner strengths,” he said.
He pointed to countries such as China, where technical education has played a major role in industrial advancement.
“Go to China and see the number of technical schools everywhere. All this AI and technology is coming from that area,” he said.
For Ghana to transform economically, he believes the country must broaden its approach to education and skills development.
“There are technical areas which are very, very useful for the development of the country,” he said.
Dr. Asamoah’s message is that success should not be measured by a person’s profession alone, but by how effectively they use their talent to contribute to society.
