We Were Fed Five Times in a Day - Ghana’s First Female Bank Manager Shares University Experience Ghana’s first female bank manager at Ghana Commercial Bank, Madam Veronica Abla Adika, has revealed that university students during her time were fed five times a day on campus. Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Madam Adika said students received breakfast, snacks, lunch, afternoon refreshments and supper daily while living on campus.

According to her, breakfast usually included tea, bread and butter, while students also received snacks later in the morning. Lunch was served in the afternoon, followed by juice and pastries before supper in the evening.

“We were fed five times a day,” she stated during the interview. Despite the feeding arrangements, Madam Adika said students occasionally went on strike over the quality of food served. “The portions wouldn’t be big. It was the quality at times that we protested about,” she explained. She noted that student protest actions often led to improvements in food quality and other conditions on campus.

Madam Adika also clarified that although she was not directly involved in leading demonstrations, she supported student movements during her time at the university.

The interview formed part of a broader conversation about campus life and student experiences during her years at the then Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
