ACCRA — For those who shared a close bond with Jerry John Rawlings, his sudden passing on November 12, 2020, was a shock wave that took months to fully process.
Recalling the fateful morning, Fritz Baffour revealed he was driving home from a local club when his sister called with the unbelievable news. "I said, 'What!' and immediately redirected my car to his house," Baffour said. Amid the initial confusion, the security detail at the gates did not recognize him, but a swift call from Rawlings’ Special Assistant, Commando, cleared the way for him to pay his respects and console the grieving family.
For Baffour, the reality of the loss did not sink in for a very long time.
"I couldn't believe it for about three to four months," Baffour confessed, his voice tinged with emotion. "I just kept thinking that one day I’d stand in a corner somewhere, and he’d be standing there saying, 'Hey, young man.' It was a very, very big loss to all of us."
