LOVE LOSS: After 55 Years of Marriage, Dr. Andrew Asamoah Shares Life Without His Wife

For decades, Dr. Andrew Asamoah had a constant companion by his side, his wife, Cecilia. Together, they built a family, travelled the world and laid the foundation for what would become A&C Mall.

Now, more than half a century after they said “I do,” the Ghanaian entrepreneur says life without her has been his greatest challenge.

Speaking to Kafui Dey, the founder of A&C Mall reflected on the pain of losing the woman he spent 55 years with.

“It’s been very, very hard,” he said. “To be with somebody for 55 years… we started together. I was 23, she was 19 when we got married.”

Their marriage took them from Kumasi to Congo, Nigeria and Geneva as Dr. Asamoah pursued an international career. Through every move and every milestone, Cecilia remained by his side.

“We became like brothers and sisters,” he said. “Even when she saw me without me saying anything, she knew whether I was happy or not happy. We had grown to that level.”

He said they supported each other through every stage of life, making her absence especially painful.

“The only consolation was that she had a medical problem and became weak, so we thought maybe at a point God’s will has to be done,” he said. “But I really miss her after 55 years together.”

The businessman also revealed that his Christian faith has taken on a deeper meaning since her passing.

“Before, honestly, she was the one dragging me to church,” he said with a smile. “Since she died, I always feel I should go to church at least for her.”

Today, the initials “A&C” represent more than a successful brand. For Dr. Asamoah, they remain a lasting reminder of the woman who helped build both his business and his life.
