MORNING GHOST: Dr. Asamoah Still Wakes Expecting His Late Wife to Walk into the Room

A&C Mall founder Dr. Andrew Asamoah says grief still catches him in the quietest moments of the day after losing his wife of 55 years.
In an emotional conversation with Kafui Dey, the veteran entrepreneur revealed that he sometimes wakes up believing his late wife, Cecilia, is still coming to see him.
“It happens,” he said when asked if he ever forgets she is gone.
“Her bedroom is here and my bedroom is here, and every morning she used to come to me. Sometimes I’m lying down and I see her coming.”
The moment, he admitted, is a painful reminder of the life they shared for more than five decades.
Dr. Asamoah said the couple met in Kumasi when he was 23 and Cecilia was 19. They married young and remained inseparable through careers that took them across Africa and Europe.
“We became like brothers and sisters,” he recalled. “She knew whether I was happy or not happy without me saying anything.”
Although he says he has tried to remain strong, the memories remain vivid.
“I’ve tried to be strong and move on,” he said.
He also disclosed that attending church has become more important to him since her death.
“She was the one dragging me to church,” he said. “Since she died, I always feel I should go to church at least for her.”
For Dr. Asamoah, the passing of time has not erased the habits of a lifetime. Even today, there are mornings when love feels so familiar that, for a brief moment, it seems she has never left.
