PRESIDENTS CLUB: The Advice Guru and Samini Gave Before Dr. Cryme Became President

Before contesting for student president, Dr Cryme sought wisdom from two musicians who had already walked that path; Guru and Samini.

Both had served as student leaders at their respective universities. Their advice, he says, became invaluable.

“Guru and Samini were my greatest inspiration”, Dr Cryme told Kafui Dey

According to Dr Cryme, Samini’s guidance was refreshingly simple.

“Just be real to the people.”

There was no need to become someone else simply because he wanted votes. Guru, meanwhile, shared practical insights from his own experience navigating campus politics.

Those conversations reinforced one lesson above all else.

Leadership should never become performance.

“I never let Dr Cryme get in the way.”

Despite his celebrity status, he deliberately avoided relying on fame during the campaign.

“I didn’t fake anything”, he said.

Instead, he reminded students that meaningful change required everyone’s participation.

“It can be me or not, but we have to do this together.”
