ACCRA— In an emotional reflection on his decades-long relationship with the family of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, veteran politician and media personality Fritz Baffour has described his connection to the former First Family as nothing short of kinship. Speaking with host Kafui Dey on the Kafui Dey Interviews podcast, Baffour laid bare the deep, enduring personal ties that outlived the turbulent political arenas they once navigated together.

For Baffour, the connection went far beyond the boundaries of political alignment. He described former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as "like a sister," a testament to the decades of shared trials, triumphs, and mutual trust. Our relationship transcended politics," Baffour shared, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "It became entirely familial." That bond has seamlessly extended to the next generation. Following the passing of the charismatic former military ruler and president in 2020, Baffour revealed that he has stepped into a protective, paternal role for the Rawlings children, viewing them as an extension of his own flesh and blood.

"I have inherited them," Baffour stated warmly, capturing the profound sense of responsibility he feels toward Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina, and Kimathi. At a time when political legacies are often viewed strictly through the lens of policy and power, Baffour’s tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the human hearts behind Ghana’s revolutionary history—proving that long after the cameras dim and the political stages clear, family remains.
