Before wealth, international recognition and business success came a simple lesson learned from childhood survival: save whatever you have.

The founder of A&C Mall Dr. Andrew Asamoah says his journey to financial discipline began when he was a young boy selling toffees and records in Kumasi.

Growing up in difficult circumstances, he quickly understood that money could disappear as quickly as it came.

“I learned that everything I get, I have to save. That became part of me,” he said.

During his childhood, every small amount he earned went into a savings account at the post office.

“Money was scarce. Even when I sold my records, I had an account with the post office. I would go and put the money there,” he recalled.

His reason was simple: today’s earnings could not guarantee tomorrow’s survival.

“Today I have sold records, maybe I have got four shillings. Tomorrow I may not sell anything. So if I spend it today, what will I do tomorrow?” he said.

That mindset stayed with him even after he entered professional life.

When he later joined the United Nations and began earning a salary, he continued applying the same discipline.

“When I went to the UN and got a job, I would get $10. Other colleagues would just spend it. I said no, this money I am going to use it,” he said.

For Dr. Asamoah, financial success was not only about earning more but also about understanding the value of money.

“I never misuse money because I know the value of money,” he said.

A childhood lesson from selling sweets and records became a lifelong principle that shaped his approach to wealth creation.
