Ghanaian Afrobeats and Highlife singer, KiDi recalls being stripped of his clothes and thrown out of home at five after a childhood prank
KiDi has opened up about one of the most shocking punishments he received as a child, revealing that his father once threw him out of the family home with nothing but his church shoes.
Speaking to Kafui Dey, the singer described himself as a notoriously stubborn child whose behaviour repeatedly tested his father’s patience.
One particular incident proved to be the final straw.
The singer who doubles as songwriter and music producer recalled that he had mistakenly eaten a bowl of Wakye that had been left on his teacher’s table after misunderstanding an instruction. When his father found out, he was furious.
According to KiDi, his father instructed his older sister to remove everything he was wearing.
“Remove everything he’s wearing. He takes nothing away from this house. If he wants to be a notorious boy he should go and do that elsewhere ”
The young KiDi was then sent out of the house.
“I was crying by the road. We used to live at Darkuman by then,” he recalled.
Eventually, his father called him back and explained that the punishment was intended to teach him a lesson.
But judging from KiDi’s own account, the lesson did not exactly stick.
“It wasn’t a lesson because I kept doing it,” he said with a laugh.
