SECRET SON: KiDi reveals why he kept his son away from the public early in his career

Ghanaian Afrobeats and Highlife singer KiDi born Dennis Nana Kwaku Boadi Dwamena has revealed that fear rather than shame was behind his decision to keep his son away from the public during the early stages of his music career.

The singer opened up about the closely guarded part of his personal life during his conversation with Kafui Dey.

Asked why he did not immediately tell the public he was a father, KiDi gave a simple answer.

“A lot of fear,” he admitted. At the time, KiDi was barely a year into the music industry and worried that revealing he had a child could change how fans viewed him.

“I kind of had a thought that after a year in the industry, if you come and say you have a kid, backlash,” he explained.

Eventually, however, the pressure of keeping such an important part of his life private became too much.

KiDi said he reached a point where he simply wanted to be able to go out publicly with his son.

“To be honest, it’s not anybody’s business anyway,” he said.

Today, the singer is far more open about fatherhood and speaks proudly about the influence his son has had on him.

“Everything I do is not just about me,” KiDi said.“There’s literally somebody, an extension of you, who is looking up to you.”

For KiDi, becoming a father did more than add another title to his life, it changed the way he sees responsibility, success and his own future.
