DISMISSED & DEVASTATED: Ofori Amponsah Was Kicked Out Of Sixth Form For Chasing Music

Ghanaian highlife musician Samuel Ofori Amponsah, popularly known as Mr. All 4 Real, has revealed that he was dismissed from secondary school after repeatedly leaving campus to pursue his music career.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Ofori Amponsah said he was in Upper Sixth at Konadu-Mase Secondary School when his passion for music began interfering with his education.

According to him, he would leave school to record music and spend time at the residence of legendary musician Daddy Lumba.

He said his activities eventually became known to school authorities after he appeared on the television programme Showtime while he was supposed to be in school.

“When I came to Daddy Lumba, they showed the Showtime on TV when I ran away from school,” he recalled.

His appearance on the programme alerted his schoolmates and teachers to his whereabouts, leading to his dismissal.

“I was dismissed from school,” he said.

Ofori Amponsah said he was studying Literature, Government and Economics and had performed well academically before his growing commitment to music took over his attention.

“I was a writer. I was a poet before I became a musician,” he said.

He also recalled the reaction of his mother, who was a teacher and had hoped he would pursue his education.

“The day she heard that I was dismissed from school, she cried,” he said.

Despite the setback, Ofori Amponsah said he remained committed to pursuing music.

“I wanted to be a musician. I wanted to be a writer, a poet and that’s what I did,” he said.

His decision to leave school ultimately marked the beginning of a long and challenging journey in music, which later saw him establish himself as one of Ghana’s prominent highlife musicians.
