Gospel musician and music industry leader Diana Hopeson has opened up about how a major hit at the age of 23 changed her life, exposing her to a level of fame and privilege she had never experienced before.

Speaking to Kafui Dey, Hopeson recalled how her breakthrough dramatically altered almost every aspect of her life, from where she lived and the environments she found herself in to the kind of food she could afford.

“My location changed. My environment, in fact, everything. I mean, even what you eat will change,” she said.

For Hopeson, the transformation went beyond material comforts. Her growing success gave her the financial freedom to make deliberate choices about her lifestyle, including maintaining a strict diet if she wanted.

But perhaps one of the biggest changes was the access that came with her new status.

“Now you are invited to king’s palaces,” she said, reflecting on how fame opened doors to places that were once beyond her reach.

Yet, behind the glamour and privileges was a danger she quickly had to learn to manage.

Hopeson explained that constant praise and attention can easily affect an artiste’s perception of themselves, particularly when success comes at a young age.

“Now you can’t just walk anyhow because once you step out people will start calling you, praising you and if you don’t take care it will get into your head,” she said.

She warned that allowing fame to take over one’s identity could have serious consequences.

“When it goes into your head you think you are above humans and that is where the danger will start,” she added.

The “Winner” hitmaker credited her Christian faith and the guidance and support she received from her late first husband, Reverend Akiwumi, for helping her navigate the pressures that came with achieving fame so early in life.

Looking back, Hopeson said her journey has taught her that success is ultimately about the purpose behind the opportunities one receives.

She believes every platform, regardless of its size, should be used to create meaningful impact.

“Whatever platform God gives us, it is for us to make an impact either in our family, in our community or internationally,” she said.
