Gospel musician Diana Hopeson has opened up about a painful chapter in her life when her relationship with her own music became so difficult that she could no longer bear to listen to her songs.

Speaking to Kafui Dey, Hopeson recalled a period when hearing her music brought back emotions she would rather not confront.

“There was a point in my life that I was like I don’t want to even hear my own music,” she said.

For an artiste whose music had once been a source of joy and fulfilment, Hopeson’s admission offered a glimpse into the personal struggles that can exist behind a successful music career.

But with time, she said, that difficult season eventually lifted.

Today, Hopeson is once again able to listen to her songs with joy, describing the feeling as if a light comes on whenever she hears them.

“But then all that also lifted and now when I hear it, it’s like there’s some lights just light up. Yeah. Yeah. And I’m excited,” she said.

Her revelation came as she reflected on her journey in music and the success she experienced during the peak of her career.

Hopeson remembered the excitement of hearing her songs played in public and watching people connect with music she had created privately.

For her, there was something deeply rewarding about seeing a creation that started in a small corner eventually reach and resonate with people around the world.

“You are so happy that you did something in a small corner and the whole world is appreciating it,” she said.
