For Samuel Ofori Amponsah, popularly known as Mr. All4Real, the road to becoming a highlife star was not paved with instant success.
It was a journey marked by rejection, uncertainty, financial struggles and years of waiting.
But through it all, he says one thing kept him going: his faith in God.
Speaking to Kafui Dey, the legendary Ghanaian musician recalled how his belief in God became deeply rooted during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
“I will pray everywhere. Everywhere I go I pray , I’m a praying person,” he said.
During his years in what he describes as his “wilderness” period, Ofori Amponsah said he often found himself praying alone, including in open fields at night.
It was during one of those moments in 1997 that he said he experienced what he interpreted as a strong inner prompting.
“I just had this intuition: go and do a passport and a yellow card,” he recalled.
At the time, he had little money and was struggling after leaving school to pursue music. Yet he managed to get the money from his mother and obtained both documents.
He would later discover why that seemingly random decision mattered.
Two years later, an opportunity to travel to Germany came through Daddy Lumba. At the German embassy, an official reportedly asked whether he was a musician.
When he answered yes, the official told him that if he could produce his yellow card, he could get the visa.
Ofori Amponsah had kept his. For him, the coincidence was anything but coincidence.
“That was the voice that I had that was manifesting in 1999,” he said.
His first trip to Germany eventually became a major turning point in his music career, but the singer says his faith had begun long before the breakthrough.
He insists that his belief in God was not something he adopted after becoming successful.
“I became this believer before I became a musician,” he said.
Looking back at everything he endured, Ofori Amponsah says his faith remains central to his story.
“I just believe that through the journey, through everything that I’ve gone through, I just believe.”
For a musician who spent years waiting for his big break, faith was more than a private belief. It became the thread that kept him moving when the music career he dreamed about seemed increasingly distant.
