Veteran sports journalist Michael Oti Adjei has issued a blunt challenge to new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting that the team must improve dramatically under his leadership or risk continued decline.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Oti Adjei said the immediate task facing Queiroz is not just tactical adjustments, but a complete transformation in performance levels and competitiveness.
“He has to make this team competitive. He has to ensure that this team plays two million times better than it's playing now because the team is crawling,” he stated.
The comments reflect growing pressure on the Portuguese tactician as he takes charge of a side that has struggled for consistency in recent international competitions.
Queiroz, who previously worked as an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and managed clubs including Real Madrid, was unveiled amid high expectations due to his extensive global experience and tournament pedigree.
Oti Adjei noted that while the coach’s résumé commands respect, Ghanaian fans and stakeholders will ultimately judge him on results rather than reputation.
“This is easily the highest-profile coach that Ghana has hired,” he said during the interview, pointing to Queiroz’s World Cup experience and long-standing presence in elite football.
However, he cautioned that prestige alone will not be enough to revive the Black Stars, who have faced criticism for recent underwhelming performances.
“The sweetness of the pudding will be in the eating,” he added, stressing that the true measure of success will come on the pitch.
The journalist emphasized that Queiroz’s challenge goes beyond managing players, extending to restoring belief, structure, and identity within the national team setup.
As Ghana prepares for upcoming international competitions, expectations remain high that the new coach will quickly deliver visible improvement and restore confidence in the Black Stars.
