Liberian music legend Miatta Fahnbulleh says she sees every new day as a blessing.
The 78 year- old celebrated singer, songwriter and African music custodian believes longevity is not only about age but also about how one chooses to live.
Speaking with Kafui Dey, Fahnbulleh shared the habits she believes have helped her maintain good health and energy.
“I’m proud of my 78. God’s blessings,” she said.
The music icon explained that after reaching a certain age, every additional year becomes a gift.
“Every day is like a celebration,” she said.
For Fahnbulleh, one important part of ageing well is eating properly.
She encouraged Africans not to abandon traditional foods in favour of highly processed diets.
“I eat Liberian, African, Ghanaian, Nigerian food,” she said.
She highlighted traditional meals such as banku and kenkey, explaining that fermented foods have nutritional benefits.
“When you sit down to eat banku, it doesn’t have any injections within it. It is fermented corn which is healthy,” she said.
Although she admitted she occasionally enjoys Kentucky Fried Chicken, she believes African foods should remain central to people’s diets.
Beyond food, Fahnbulleh said attitude and purpose are equally important.
She encouraged people to remain active, avoid unnecessary stress and continue finding meaning in life.
At 78, she is not only celebrating survival, she is celebrating a life still full of creativity and possibility.
