In an interview with Kafui Dey, Dr Cryme explained that his stage name has a completely different meaning—one rooted in creativity rather than criminality. "The cryme stands for Creative Rhymes You Must Enjoy. C-R-Y-M.E No criminal attached." He admitted that over the years, many people have misunderstood the name simply because of how it sounds."I have to educate people. There's no criminal attached”, he added. The interview also uncovered the story behind another name fans know him by—"Da General." According to the rapper, the title reflects his personal journey through music. "I feel like General is the apex as a soldier. I rose through the ranks." He likened his growth in the music industry to military promotion, saying he started as an ordinary "foot soldier" during his Kasahari freestyle days before steadily earning recognition. Long before "Kill Me Shy" became a household anthem, he was simply another young rapper trying to stand out in a crowded field. That desire to be different also gave birth to one of his signature catchphrases. While most rappers opened their performances with the familiar "Yo... check it out... ready...", Dr Cryme wanted something unique. "I asked myself, 'How can I be different?'" His answer became "Relerele Yo." The expression eventually evolved into one of his trademarks, helping distinguish him from everyone else on stage.
