A 99-year-old spiritual leader, educator and founding member of the Holy Church of God, Charles Baako Kweku Nyatsui Moses, has revealed that he remained sexually abstinent until the age of 27 and only had sexual relations after marrying the woman who became his lifelong partner.
Speaking in an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, Mr. Moses said his decision was influenced by his commitment to God, his work as a teacher and the values instilled in him by his parents.
“You may believe it or disbelieve it, but that’s a fact. I never had sex until 27 years,” he said. “The person I had sex with, I married her.”
According to him, he never felt pressured to engage in sexual relationships during his youth despite societal expectations.
“My concern was to do the work of God and teach the children,” he said. “As long as I’m not married, I don’t want to have sex with anybody else.”
Mr. Moses said his father advised him to ensure he was financially capable of caring for a wife before entering marriage.
“He said, ‘Make sure that you are prepared to feed the lady who may come your way,’” he recounted.
The nonagenarian also shared how he met his future wife while teaching in Buaman in the Ashanti Region.
He said he was immediately attracted to her composure and beauty and boldly informed her during their first meeting that he intended to marry her.
“When I saw the lady, I said, ‘I will marry you,’” he said.
Mr. Moses recalled that the woman responded positively and later agreed to the relationship.
He subsequently informed his father of his intentions, prompting his parents to travel to Buaman to meet the woman’s family.
The visit led to an unexpected discovery when both families realised that Mr. Moses’ father and his future father-in-law had attended the same school in Kumasi and had known each other for years.
Reflecting on modern society, Mr. Moses expressed concern about what he sees as declining respect for parents and elders among younger generations.
“Modern boys and girls do not respect their parents the way those of us who have advanced in age do,” he said.
Now approaching a century of life, Mr. Moses credits his longevity, values and successful marriage to faith, discipline, respect for others and adherence to the principles instilled in him by his parents.
Mr. Moses was married to his wife for several decades until her death at the age of 84. He described her as a beautiful and supportive partner who played a significant role in his life journey.
The 99-year-old said the values of patience, responsibility and faith guided his decisions throughout his life and remain relevant for younger generations today.
