Before the awards, hit songs and international recognition, KiDi was just another aspiring musician being told no.

The singer has revealed that he failed two major talent-show auditions before his breakthrough — experiences that almost convinced him music reality shows were not his path.

“I’ve gone to two of them that I didn’t make it,” KiDi told Kafui Dey.

His first rejection came at Vodafone Icons, where he made it as far as the final 24 contestants before being eliminated.

Then came X Factor.

KiDi recalled rushing to an audition after sitting an examination, only to face another rejection.

“I finished my paper quick quick just to make the audition and I still didn’t make it,” he said.

After those two disappointments, KiDi began questioning whether he belonged in the music industry.

“I told myself after those two auditions, maybe that’s not my path,” he admitted.

Then came MTN Hitmaker.

He was hesitant to try again, partly because he had seen many reality-show winners struggle to maintain successful careers after their competitions ended.

But with few other routes to his dream, he decided to take the risk.

“I don’t have any other means to get this dream. What’s the worst that can happen? Let me go and try,” he recalled thinking.

That decision changed everything.

KiDi won the competition and went on to build the career he had once feared might never happen.

Today, his attitude is clear: “I refuse to be a statistic.”
