Award-winning Ghanaian rapper M.anifest says he designs his albums as fully constructed creative worlds, where music, visuals and emotion are intentionally aligned to deliver a complete artistic experience rather than a loose collection of songs.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, M.anifest explained that his creative process begins long before recording sessions, often starting with an emotional idea that becomes the foundation of the entire project.

He said that once the feeling behind a project is identified, it shapes everything that follows, from sound direction to visuals and how the work is ultimately presented to audiences.

“I begin with the idea and the feeling.”

M.anifest noted that this approach guided recent projects such as The Gamble, Madina to the Universe, and his 2024 album New Road and Guava Trees, where he explored themes of identity, growth and reflection through carefully structured soundscapes.

He explained that for him, an album is not just a playlist of songs but a carefully built environment where every detail contributes to a larger narrative.

“What are the colours? What does it look like putting it out into the world?”

According to him, the creative process extends beyond music production into visual identity, sequencing and the emotional tone of the project, ensuring that each body of work feels unified.

He said he views modern musicians as multidimensional creatives who must think beyond sound alone.

“They are craftspeople and they think about this thing in a 360 way.”

M.anifest added that this philosophy is central to how he builds projects like No Where Cool and Madina to the Universe, where lyrical themes, production choices and artistic direction are designed to reinforce each other.

He explained that the goal is to ensure listeners experience each album as a complete journey, where every track contributes to a larger emotional and conceptual world.

For him, strong albums are not just heard, they are experienced as fully formed artistic spaces that remain with the audience long after the final track ends.
